Alan Says Merry Christmas!

 Kia ora tamariki ma,  today is the last day of school for 2021! Alan is looking forward to a lovely holiday with lots of walks and hopefully treats as well. I hope everyone at GTS has a great break too - you've all worked so hard so this year - a big achievement in a very challenging year. 

I've seen more amazing work going on this week as usual - Room 10 have been growing wonderful vegetables and harvesting them and have even done some garden themed collage art! Amazing! 

The juniors have continued with their Dr Suess themed art and created some wonderful Christmas Grinches and the incredible Spoonville. Ka pai juniors! 

Merry Christmas everybody. See you in 2022!

Alan is Amazed

 Morena tamariki ma, hope you are having a great Ratu and enjoying being back at school with your hoa. 

Alan has been super impressed with the art that some classes have sent him pictures of - all produced in the last last week!

The junior school have been enjoying Dr Suess books and using them as an inspiration for their gorgeous art work and Room nine have been discovering similarities and differences between dinosaurs and moa! They produced such incredible art that Mr Herlihy rushed out to see it and sneak into the photo!  

Mahi pai to all the clever students! Now, I wonder what the senior school have been up to? I must just go and email them to ask....

Alan Wishes he was at School

 Morena tamariki ma, how exciting it is that Glen Taylor School is open for learning on site again! I'm having to stay home to look after Mr Cox but (although I would never tell him because I don't want to hurt his feelings) I would much rather be at school with all my Glen Taylor friends. Mrs Cox says she had a lovely day in Room 1 yesterday doing exciting things such as art (thank you Mrs Logan for the great Cat in the Hat activity you did with the students) and dancing on the field. Apparently Ms Wrack was impressed by the amazing moves she could see!

I was a bit bored at home because Mr Cox had no time to play with me...Mrs Cox took me on a walk before school and then at night when it the temperature had cooled down. Very pleasant and I enjoy looking at the stars when we walk at night - it's so pretty.

I'm sorry my blog was a day late this week...I got a bit mixed up with the days of the week! Never mind - everyone makes mistakes sometimes and that's okay.

Alan's Week

 Morena tamariki ma, I know you've had a good week because I can see so much work online! You're doing so well! The weather has been really lovely so I've been out to the park as usual and checking on my strawberries in the garden to see how they are doing (very well thank you for asking). Laying outside sunning myself to get nice and warm. Usually I then end up too hot and have to go scurrying back inside.

I've heard that school is starting again on Tuesday next week. I would love to be there but Mrs Cox says I need to stay at home to keep Mr Cox company. She also said it would be too hard for the children not to run and see me and that would mean people might get closer to each other than they are supposed too. I'll still be blogging to keep in touch but on Tuesdays only. I like looking at your work online so keep blogging!

Alan's Weekend

 Kia ora tamariki ma, it's been a beautiful sunny weekend hasn't it? I got to go on big walks on Rahoroi and Ratapu  which as you know I always enjoy.On Rahoroi we walked up to the local fruit and vegetable shop which we do quite a lot. I sit on the grass outside with Mrs Cox while Mr Cox buys what we need. I love the place we sit because it's shady and also is usually covered in sticks which I can eat. Yummy!

I've been spending quite a bit of time in the garden and we have grown some strawberries and we've noticed some passionfruit appearing on our vine - they are not easy to grow so Mrs Cox is very excited about that as well as about the flowers appearing on her miniture feijoa tree - that hasn't happened before. Mrs Cox loves feijoas - I haven't ever tasted them but I'm hoping too when they appear in the autumn. 

I hope you got outside during the weekend and are feeling refreshed and ready for another week of amazing learning!

Alan's Week

 Morena tamariki ma, it's been a lovely week with lots and lots of walks. One day we were at the park and we saw the Mr Whippy van. I didn't know Mrs Cox could run so fast! She ran over saying something about how she hadn't had a Mr Whippy ice cream since she was little. So she bought one - she said it was very expensive but I think it looked worth every cent. I tried sitting nicely and looking keen but Mrs Cox said I couldn't have any because ice cream is not good for dogs. To be fair she did let me lick her fingers afterwards.....

Alan is disappointed!

Another interesting thing was that I bought a new book! It's all about learning Te Reo Maori - Mrs Cox is going to teach me some of the things she gets me to do in te reo. She thinks I'll be really good at understanding it and says she will learn more te reo as well.  I think it will be fun!

Alan's Challenge of the Day (November 16)

 Kia ora tamariki ma, it's time for my challenge of the day!

The juniors are learning about nursery rhymes this week so that is the theme of my challenges this week.

Q: What nursery rhyme do these objects represent? 

My other challenge for the day is : can you find or draw three objects to represent a nursery rhyme that you enjoy? Send it to me and I will have some prizes to give out! Each junior class (Room 1-4) can win one prize per class which will be randomly drawn from the entries I receive. Juniors can upload their entries to seesaw and Alan will check them out! 

For middle and senior classes there will be one random prize for each syndicate. Seniors and middles can email their entries to Mrs Cox. She will show them to Alan! Prizes will be drawn on Friday morning and prize winners notified.

Alan and the Rain

 Morena tamariki ma, gosh wasn't it rainy this weekend? I thought it would never stop on Saturday but luckily Sunday was a bit drier although the sky was still overcast and everything was still damp and wet.

I did get to go on a walk each day though - I would never let a bit of rain stop me. My coat is so thick it keeps the worst of the rain off and I give myself a good shake when I get home. I'm allowed to in the carport but not inside the house. Unfortunately I didn't really find that out until I'd already shaken myself.....Mrs Cox wasn't thrilled about that but she really loves me so of course she forgave me instantly!

When I go to the park at this time of year I like to nibble the grass because it tastes really sweet and yummy. Mrs Cox says I am not supposed to because I'm not a sheep or a cow but I just can't resist. She says she hopes I leave some for the other dogs at least. I think that's her attempt at a joke.....

Anyway it was lovely to get out in the fresh air. We bumped into our neighbours and found out that one of them has written a book - it's being published in February and it's about creating your pepeha! Mrs Cox says she's keen to buy a copy. That must be an amazing feeling - seeing a book published with your name on the front as the author. I can think of quite a few Glen Taylor students that could definitely become authors when they are a bit older! That would be great to see.

 Morena tamariki ma, I've enjoyed my week and I got to see another of my friends from Glen Taylor School.

I had to pop into school and guess who was there! Yes, you guessed it - Miss Halina! It was so good to see her - even though she didn't have any treats for me! Of course I did make her pat me a lot to make up for it - she didn't mind a bit - in fact I think she loved it!

Alan's Weekend

Morena tamariki ma, hope you have had a good weekend. I have and the weather has been so lovely I got to go outside a lot. Walks of course - and Mrs Cox was doing a bit of gardening....we went to the garden centre and bought some lavender to plant - it's good at attracting bees to the garden - and also some more strawberry plants! I love strawberries - yummy! I hope I'm allowed a few to nibble! 

I hope I get some strawberries!

I have started my new jigsaw puzzle - it's another quite tricky one but I'm sure it's not too difficult for me! I've only just started it though - lots more to do! 

Well I've started !

I wonder if you had any fireworks for Guy Fawkes night? There were some around where we live - lots that made very loud bangs! Some were extremely colourful - those are my favourite ones! A lot of animals get very frightened by fireworks so I hope all the animals were inside.

Alan is not scared of fireworks!

Alan's Challenge of the Day (November 5) and Catch Up.

 Kia ora tamariki!  It's Friday again and I've had a really nice week looking at all the work people are doing online and commenting on it! It keeps me busy and entertained which is great because although I love Mrs Cox and Mr Cox very much it would be exciting to talk to someone else sometimes and of course we are not seeing our friends at the moment - except at a distance or online. Sometimes I get to peek into the class Mrs Cox is teaching which is great. If it was your class you may have seen me too! I was probably wagging my tail furiously because I was so happy to see you!

I started my new jigsaw this week too - very exciting; I'm hoping it doesn't take as long as the last one I did!

It's Guy Fawkes night tonight - I don't even know if they are on sale this year = I kind of hope so as I usually go out onto our balcony to watch them safely from a distance as they are so pretty. Most cats and dogs don't enjoy them though so there are two things to remember if you are having fireworks at your house:

1. Keep yourself safe

2. Pets probably feel safest inside

Alan and Te Reo

 Kia ora tamariki ma, welcome to week three of term four! I've had a lovely weekend as usual with lots of walks and lots of eating! Yummy! I also overheard Mrs Cox saying she's sent off for my Christmas present! I wonder what it could be? Toys? A juicy bone? A new collar? I can hardly wait!

For my challenges of the day this week I will be telling jokes but on a different topic from last week. Have a read of my blog tomorrow to see what this week's topic is and to have a go at answering the first joke!

As the juniors are  going to be learning about the human body this week I have decided to have an extra challenge. Draw a picture of me and label the different parts of my body in Te Reo!

If you are a junior (Rooms 1,2,3 and 4) post your picture on Seesaw and I will look at them there. There will be a small prize for one from each of those classes drawn at random. 

That, of course, doesn't mean that only the juniors can send me their pictures and labels....there will also be a random prize for one entry from the middle school and one from the senior school.

Alan and the Rat!

 Kia ora tamariki ma, I hope you have all had another successful week back online and back to learning! 

I know from chatting to your teachers that they love to see your smiling faces even if they can't see you in n person. 

I have been reading your work online and just like last term I'm very impressed with you all. Whether it's blogging or activities on seesaw you're amazing! 

I had a bit of an adventure this week. We were sitting in the lounge watching television and all of a sudden we could hear a scrabbling noise in the wall between the lounge and the kitchen! Mr and Mrs Cox were not very happy about it and decided a rat might have moved in! They seemed to think I should have dealt with it myself but I'm not going to eat anything but the finest dog food in the land -after all, it's what I'm used to!

Anyway they phoned the rat exterminator -and he came along the next morning. Thank goodness because we were a bit afraid the rat would start chewing the wiring inside the walls!

Alan meets James the rat man!

James promised the rat will go away now and we haven't seen it since which is good. Even though Mr and Mrs Cox had to keep out of the way it was quite exciting to have a visitor! I like meeting people and James was very nice!

Now, I am a bit behind on my jigsaw to do so I just might go and spend some time doing that.....

Alan and Mr Pete

 Morena tamariki ma, I hope you are enjoying the long weekend - even though the weather has been terrible! On Saturday morning I went for a walk with Mr and Mrs Cox up to Sunhill Fruit Shop to get some fruit and vegetables. It was quite sunny at that time but the wind set in and by the afternoon it wasn't the best. We have quite a few trees outside our house and they were really shaking! Sunday was even worse because it rained all day. We went for a walk anyway and Mrs Cox had to rub me down with a towel when we got home because I was so wet - even after I gave myself a good shake!

On Friday Mrs Cox had to go into school (teachers are allowed to for some things as long as they wear a mask and keep away from anyone else). Mr Pete was there because of course he is allowed there to continue looking after the school and fixing anything that needs it. I was so excited to see him! I think it was the best part of the day - even better than my walk!

Alan Meets a Friend!

 Morena tamariki ma, I hope you have enjoyed being back at school even if it is not how we expected it to be. I miss seeing all your smiling faces but I have been very interested to see that you are learning about dinosaurs in some classes. Did you know I have a dinosaur costume? Well you may have seen me wearing it put just in case here it is!

What sort of dinosaur am I?

Mrs Cox has taught herself the NZ sign language for dinosaur so she has been sharing it with the juniors. They are very good at using it now. 

Something else very cool happened this week. On Monday I was going for a walk with Mrs Cox and guess what happened? A familiar voice called out from along the road and it turned out to be Mrs Kasipale!

It was so exciting to see her as you can imagine. The two humans had masks on of course and stayed two metres apart but we still managed to have a good chat. All of us were extremely happy as you can imagine.

So good to catch up! Hello Mrs Kasipale!

Alan and Term Four

 Kia ora tamariki ma! Well I hoped I would see you all in person today but sadly not yet!

You are all outstanding students and have done so well with your learning online so keep up your amazing effort this term. I hope everyone had a relaxing two weeks of holidays - I did with lots of park visits and lots of running around the house and yard with Mr and Mrs Cox. I went to the vet and it was a bit weird as I had to go in by myself - not a problem for me as I love the vet and the vet nurses and they always give me lots of treats. Yummy! 

The other exciting event was that I finished (finally) my jigsaw! So exciting - but quite funny as there was one piece left over!  And no holes in the puzzle. Obviously it was a mistake by the people who packed the puzzle - which just goes to show that everyone makes mistakes and it's okay. It just made the puzzle even more exciting to do!

Alan's Last Day of Term

 Kia ora tamariki ma, I can't believe it's the last day of term three! I have enjoyed my last day of term - assembly was so much fun  I always enjoy the principal's assembly! I think it's because Mr Herlihy and I both like telling jokes!

I'd like to congratulate all my Glen Taylor friends for working so hard during this term, especially during lockdown because it's not easy! You deserve a good rest over the holidays so rest up but get out and about as much as you safely can. I'm going to read some books too because I just love reading. Mrs Cox likes it when I help around the house so I'll try and help out a bit! I could rinse out my own dog bowl after I've been fed!

Alan's Challenge of the Day (October 1)

 Morena tamariki ma - hey it's the last day of term three! I have a different challenge for you today.

My challenge is to have fun, keep safe and relax during the holidays! I'm sure you can do that!

I'm taking a break for the holidays - I'm planning on a lot of relaxation and lots of walks with Mrs and Mr Cox.

Alan Almost Completes his Jigsaw

 Kia ora tamariki ma, whew, my task is almost done! This is the most difficult jigsaw I've ever done! It's taken me all of lockdown to not quite complete - obviously I wasn't working on it all the time but I was surprised at how hard it was! It is a thousand pieces but that's actually not what makes it hard. It's the rather limited range of colours there are and how detailed some of the flowers and butterflies are. Also the background is basically different shades of black! 

Still it's nearly done now - I am a champion jigsawer (I'm not sure that is actually a word .....but you know what I mean!) 

Hopefully the holidays will see me complete it - I guess I used up valuable time going for my walk today - look where I went! My favourite place after my house - my workplace. Of course I was just outside...but I'm sure we will be back soon!
